Welcome!

My name is Frank, and I have been a practicing massage therapist for 20 years. I have helped many clients work through a wide range of needs, and bring a great deal of experience to the table. I work out of a private studio located in Middlebury, Vermont, and would be honored to be a part of your journey through wellness.

Frank Gissy

Frank has been practicing Massage Therapy for 20 years.
After completing an 840 hour program in 2005 from NAMTI school of massage in Sedona, Arizona, and giving over 7,000 massages as a professionally licensed massage therapist in the state of Arizona, he brings a great deal of experience to the table.

Modalities

  • Swedish Massage is rhythmic and flowing, with a focus on relaxation, increasing circulation, muscle elongation, and gently breaking up muscle adhesions. Swedish is a wonderful modality for those who want to experience calmness of mind and relaxation of body in the same session.

  • Deep Tissue is a focused modality where the muscles are worked in a linear fashion, superficial to deep, insertion to origin. Deep Tissue can be very successful at breaking up muscle adhesions “knots” and releasing tight and shortened muscles.

  • Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle modality that uses light pressure hand holds and very subtle physical manipulation. CST is about listening to the body and following its movements. Much like riding a wave rather than trying to stop it.

  • Trigger Point Therapy is a focused modality where specific pressure is applied to muscle adhesions “knots” with the intent of releasing the adhesions and relaxing of muscles.

Philosophy: The deepest benefit from massage therapy comes from the engagement of the parasympathetic nervous system. Just as the sympathetic nervous system is involuntarily engaged when we feel stressed or threatened, the parasympathetic nervous system is involuntarily engaged when we feel calm and safe. The rhythmic and continuous physical movement of massage therapy or even the still physical presence of craniosacral therapy can often engage the parasympathetic nervous system and leave a client in a state of deep relaxation.

This is especially important in our modern world of constant connectivity, stresses; real and perceived, and all of the demands placed upon us. Taking the time to receive a massage once a week, once a month, or even once every six months can be a great way to reset your mind and body.

Things to know.

What to Wear? Whatever you are comfortable with. You are welcome to remain fully clothed, and you are welcome to completely disrobe. It’s completely up to you. The difference is that lotion will not be used over clothing, and the massage will mostly consist of compressions over clothing.

What not to Wear? Please leave your jewelry at home. Necklaces, bracelets, wrist watches, and dangly earrings interfere the most.

Biodynamic Craniosacral: Clothing is always worn, please wear loose comfortable clothing.

Proper draping: A clean sheet and blanket is used at all times, and only the area being worked on will be exposed.

Tipping Policy: I do not accept tips. I have my prices set accordingly and feel sufficiently compensated. I believe that massage therapy is a professional career in every sense of the term. We must go to school, obtain licensure through a state board, and carry insurance.

Recommending me to your friends and family is the biggest compliment that you could give me. I have always appreciated that the most because it shows trust to the people that you care about the most.

Unscented: The lotion that I use is unscented, and all of the linens that I use are washed in unscented detergent.

Pressure: I work in the Light to Medium range of pressure. I tend to use finesse and technique to gain results rather than pressure.

If you feel that deep or intense pressure is important to you, please seek a massage therapist that specializes in that pressure range. I appreciate your understanding.

Talking: You are more than welcome to talk to me during a session, and you are also welcome to drift off. I am happy to listen to your life story, and I am just as happy to be quiet for the session. I believe it can be equally therapeutic to talk about what is on your mind as it is to have an hour of peace and quiet.

Prenatal Massage: At this time I am unable to provide services if you are pregnant or believe that you may be pregnant. Please seek a massage therapist that is trained in prenatal massage. I appreciate your understanding.

Minors Policy: Clients under 18 years of age are welcome with the requirement of a parental consent form. Clients 15 years of age and under require a parental consent form and for a parent to be present in the room for the duration of the massage session.

Heated Massage Table: Cozy and relaxing for the cooler months ahead.

Rescheduling Policy: Life happens, you are welcome to reschedule an appointment up to 24 hours before the time of an appointment, free of charge.

Cancelation Policy: If you need to cancel an appointment, canceling 24 hours before the time of an appointment will receive a full refund minus the processing fee. Appointments cancelled within 24 hours of an appointment time will be charged 100%.
